oh yeah, absolutely! i’ve made a couple of fursuits for myself– here they are! (the purple german shepherd, Vic, is newer, made a couple years after Irene, the goat)
as for making a fursuit yourself, i can recommend several sources!
KloofSuits is an excellent maker who’s not only shared some super helpful tutorials but even her own base patterns, paw patters, and various other fursuit part patterns! Her etsy is HERE and her assembly video of a canine base is HERE, which is what I followed for making Vic up above! I also used the paw pattern HERE which was sooo useful!
For fur resoruces, I purchased Vic’s fur at Howl Fabric which has a really neat selection of custom-dyed and made fur specifically for suit makers! you can find all sorts of fabric sites of course, but that one has some really neat color selections you might not find elsewhere :) i also recommend checking out local fabric and craft stores to see what kind of fur they have! i definitely recommend getting high-quality fur with a good backing so it’ll both Look Good and Last a long time!
i’ve never actually commissioned a fursuit, so i can’t say anything about that experience other than be aware that it’s pricy! it can save you a lot of personal time and effort, i imagine, to commission a partial suit but the downside is that it’s sooo expensive because of material and labor costs! i don’t have any suit makers to recommend unfortunately, though The Dealer’s Den can be a place to start if you want to find suit makers or purchase pre-made or pre-owned suits!
